Breast Cancer, Self Breast Exams and General Breast Health

Let me start by saying that there is a lot of conflicting data as to whether taking estrogen increases your risk of developing breast cancer so make sure you talk to your doctor. Other then that I want to do is remind everyone that we as trans women (and postopt trans men) need to do monthly self breast examinations and have mammograms when the time calls for it just as much as our cisgender women counterparts. Remember that if you have breast (or have ever had them) you have a risk of breast cancer! Please take this seriously!

Anyway, I could go on and on about how to do a self exam but there are 100's of online articles already about this. Here is a link to a great one: how to preform a self breast examination.

For more information on breast cancer check out these links:

On a side note... Even post operative all trans women still have their prostate so remember that we still have a risk of prostate cancer. Don't forget to get that checked just like everyone else who has one!

Also, trans men, check out this site about ovarian cancer.
